James 2:14 – 17 – New Living Translation
14. What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
15. Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,
16. and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”–but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
17. So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and and useless.
Christian Education Ministry
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible authority, the Word of God, our only rule of faith and practice.
Paul states, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV). Peter adds, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost”. (2 Peter 1:21 KJV)
The primary role of the Christian Education ministry is to provide instruction by way of Sunday school classes, New Member orientation, and weekly Bible study.
Men’s Ministry
The goal of The St. Luke Men’s Ministry is to lead men back to authentic manhood. In our society, being a man is confusing. There are a number of definitions according to the world’s standards. We look at the Biblical call to be a real man as one who rejects passivity, accepts responsibility, leads courageously and invests in eternity. The purpose of the Men’s Ministry at St. Luke is expressed in Colossians 1:28 – That we may present every man complete in Christ.”
So what does it mean to be “complete in Christ” as a man? To be complete in Christ means that we are happy in being a man! We provide for our families; we fight for righteousness sake; we have close male friends that encourage us; and we are faithful to our wives.
Finally, our primary purpose is to help men grow in their relationship with God and build deep friendships with other godly men. A natural result of this is spiritually stronger men, husbands, fathers, families and churches.
But it’s not all seriousness. The men of St. Luke have many activities designed for fun and friendship. It’s OK to have fun! Come join us.
Women’s Ministry
Come join one of the most dynamic women’s ministries in the City of Memphis. The Women’s Ministry at St. Luke was created:
-
As a place to address the spiritual, emotional, physical, and social needs of women in the church.
-
To encourage women to improve their potential for participation in the mission of the church.
-
As a place where women can find a support system for hurting women—whether they are suffering from divorce, abuse, or simply loneliness.
-
As a forum to help address topics and issues that affect women within secular society.
-
To encourage young women to pursue their dreams.
-
To encourage women to become involved in all areas of ministry in the church, the community, and their homes.
-
As a mentoring place
The St. Luke Women’s Ministry recognize that women have many Gifts of the Spirit and attempts to help women discover and use these gifts to the glory of God.
Children’s Ministry
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
There is no greater or more joyful noise around St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church than the sound of children! St. Luke loves and cares for the children of our community. Our Children’s Ministry provides programs that encourage and equip growth in Christ in a fun, loving, and safe environment! Children are welcome in our worship services, and we also offer fantastic programs to help children connect with God! Our children are the Church of today and tomorrow. They deserve our respect, love and dedicated effort to help them grow into the men and women God created them to be. Take the lead in that process.
We invite you to join us as we train up the next generation of believers.
Food Pantry
In the spirit of Matthew 25:34-35, the mission of the St. Luke Food Pantry Ministry is to serve the community we are in by providing nutritious canned and dry goods as well as meat to persons within the church and community who are experiencing an emergency food need.
If you or someone you know have a need, this ministry will strive to meet the need as best as we possibly can.
